All About Lighting for Mazda

The Kinds There are

Everything from headlights and taillights to daytime running lights ("DRLs", for short). Higher-level Mazda trims may have fog lights and specialty lights.

What Each Does

Depending on the light, functions abound. Headlights, for instance, work as low-beams for most driving, not to mention as high-beams for when it's extremely dark. They also work as hazard lights or "flashers," which can warn other drivers of distress or danger nearby.

DRLs and tail lighting, on the other hand, tell drivers where you are and how far away. Turn signals or "blinkers" inform them of turns or lane changes, and brake lights let them know you're slowing down and stopping. Fog lighting, however, brightens the way better in bad weather, while specialty lighting accents exterior accessories like license plate frames.

Bulb Types

Headlamp, tail lamp, or otherwise, either halogen, Xenon/high-intensity discharge (HID), or LED. The first, you'll find in most smaller Mazda cars and SUVs. The second, you'll find in many of the brand's sports cars. The third, you'll find in newer Mazda models.

When to Replace Them

Halogen lights should be changed every two years or so. Xenon lights, you should change every few years, if or when they dim. Swap out old LED lights for new ones if their electronics fail or the lights themselves burn out.

The Kind Your Car or SUV Needs

That depends on its model. The genuine article will be your best choice either way.

Why Buy Genuine Mazda Lights

The OEM manufactures them to fit its model perfectly. That's a promise that you may not necessarily get on the aftermarket.
