OEM Mazda Belts, Pulleys & Brackets

Mazda Belts Buying Guide

What They Do

Move all the parts inside your car or SUV that have to move for the ride you love to run at all.

How Many and What Kinds There are

Three: a serpentine belt, drive belts (also called V-belts), and a timing belt.

What Serpentine Belts Do

Work with crank and idler pulleys and tensioners to move parts in many systems -- among them, the alternator and power steering.

What V- and Drive Belts Do

Work with the crank pulley, passing through and helping move parts in the radiator, water pump, and more.

What Timing Belts Do

Synchronize camshaft and crankshaft movement, helping prevent auto parts from colliding with one another. Newer Mazda models may use timing chains, which do the same thing, instead.

The Signs They're Going Bad

In the case of the serpentine belt, cracking or developing shallow grooves. In the case of the drive or V-belts, the belts becoming too tight or too lose, cracking, squealing, alternator problems, and engine overheats. In the case of the timing belt or chain, general damage.

When to Replace Them

The serpentine belt: if you see the signs mentioned above, or every 90,000 miles. (Be sure to inspect it every 60,000 miles.) The V- or drive belts: when they present the symptoms mentioned above. The timing belt: when it starts showing signs of failure, or every 60,000 to 90,000 miles. The timing chain (if your vehicle has one): barring exceptional circumstances, probably never. It's designed to last the engine's lifetime.

Still unsure about when to change them? Check your owner's manual for more information and instructions. Before you buy replacements, though, make sure they're genuine.

Why You Should Buy Genuine Mazda Belts

Unlike aftermarket belts, they're guaranteed compatible with the car or SUV model you drive.
